Someone is About to Drive Drunk? These Tips Can Help Prevent Drunk Driving

In the U.S., someone is injured or worse in a drunk driving accident.

Drunk driving is still a major epidemic in this country and every single day, far too many people put their lives and the lives of others at risk when they get behind the wheel after drinking. There are only 4,000 drunk driving arrests each day, but there are more than 300,000 drunk drivers out on the roadways on any day. That means that each day, roughly 296,000 drunk drivers are still out there and can end someone’s life at any moment.

We all need to work together to stop these potentially deadly decisions from being made. It’s not just the worst of the worst that are doing it. Crooks and robbers and murderers aren’t the only ones drunk driving. Our friends are doing it, our community leaders are doing it, and our family members are doing it. They’re impaired, so by definition, their decision-making skills are pretty much useless.

It’s up to us.

Here are a few things that you should do if you notice any of your friends, loved ones, or complete strangers about to drive drunk.

Sacrifice Your Night and Give Them a Ride
It might not be your first choice, but it could be the option that saves someone’s life. If you have not been drinking and you could spare the time to give this drunk person a ride home, do it. Whatever night you were about to have would be drastically changed for the worst if that person drove drunk and killed someone. You would almost feel responsible. Sacrificing one night to drive someone home before they make a horrible decision is well worth it.

Stay With Them as You Call for a Ride
We have all been around that one drunk person who is just so unbearable we just want to run away. You’re going to have to fight those urges if you’re serious about preventing drunk driving. You will have to babysit this drunk person until a safe ride alternative has arrived. Call a taxi, an Uber or Lyft, a total stranger, or someone who you know can offer this person a ride.

Call the Police
Don’t feel bad about calling the police at all. If this person is too drunk to drive and too drunk to listen to you about finding a safer alternative, call the police and have them handle the situation. At worst, they’ll probably spend a night in jail if they aren’t cooperative. That’s way better than taking someone’s life because they chose to drive drunk.

If nothing could be done to prevent someone from driving drunk and you or a loved one is injured as a result, contact an experienced law firm with professional personal injury lawyers and car accident lawyers. Experienced law firms know how overwhelming some of these cases can be. They will provide you with the care, knowledge, and legal assistance you need to get the justice you deserve.

If a person drives drunk even after other people tried to help them find a safer alternative, there is no exception and they need to be punished. The average drunk driver has already gotten away with the crime around 80 times before they are arrested for the first time. Hopefully, the police will catch them before any damage is done to anyone, but if you were harmed in a drunk driving crash, auto accident lawyers from professional law firms will help you as much as they can.
